Ellender students hear how the plantation was saved.
Ellender students view an African tradition.
Slave tags demonstration for Ellender students.
Ellender students were shown a slave house and told of a slave revolt.
Ellender Middle interviewed Captain Nathaniel Lyons from Illinois.
We were shown how moss mattresses are made.

We were shown slave tags. They were similar to dog tags used by the army to identify slaves if they ran away.

My group did an interview with Angie Matherne.
We were Cajun two step dancing with the little kids. It was a great experience.
We asked him if he liked slavery?He answered it was wrong and some slaves were brought to the plantation and was hung on sticks.
We interviewed a Union officer from Springfield, Illinois.

JPPSS

The students of Ellender Middle School and Patrick Taylor Academy will be attending Heritage Day at the Destrehan Plantation. The students will visit the plantation and report on events happening throughout the day. The students will use this blog and Twitter to display their interviews and demonstrations.
